He wasn’t a believer—not in God, not in humankind, and not in the spirit of Christmas. But tonight, this first night of December, the beginning of advent, Severus Snape found himself in a run-down, cozy little kirk. Poinsettias decorated the lobby and fat, red candles cast flickering shadows on the walls.
He walked down the short aisle and knelt at the altar. Looking up at the crucifix, he whispered, “Please let it end. If there is any mercy in the world…”
Severus cut himself off. He knew better than most that mercy was a myth.
Yet he stayed, kneeling...hoping.
